Drew Barrymore: Film role leaves with bad skin condition

Drew Barrymore left the set of upcoming TV movie Grey Gardens with an irritating skin condition, after developing an allergy to the heavy makeup she was forced to wear while filming. Barrymore plays former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis’ cousin Little Edie Beale — a recluse who lived in poverty, filth and cat faeces in a decayed 28-room mansion in The Hamptons, New York. And the actress is still haunted by her dark movie role, the makeup that turned her into an old lady also left her skin peeling and sore. She said, “Depending on the scenes we were shooting,I’d have to sit in that makeup chair four to six hours every single day. Just ageing the face and hands took four hours. Then, taking it off, was another hour-and-a-half... My face suffered as a result. We ended up with skin issues I’d never had before because I developed an allergy to chemicals in isopropyl, the alcohol used in removing cosmetics. A constancy of prosthetics also created a sensitivity to adhesives, and our make-up people had to find alternatives.”
