'Modelling is silent acting'
Jiah Khan walked the ramp for designer Sunaina Puri at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week. So did model Alesia Raut. But while Jiah was the Bollywood showstopper, for Alesia it was a daily routine. We caught up with both of them backstage and let Alesia interview Jiah.
Alesia: Almost all shows now have Bollywood showstoppers. What do you think of the trend? Jiah: In the West, it is only supermodels who are the showstoppers. But here, Bollywood people come, probably because they are friends with the designer. It is only to support their designer friends, so it is good.
A: How would you define modelling?
J: Modelling is like silent acting. A model's expression can completely represent or rubbish a designer's idea. If a model wears a sad expression for a recession-based collection, you will immediately get the connect.
A: As an actor, what is the one thing you would like to change about our line? J: Everyone walks with the same gait...that should change.
A: But we are asked specifically to follow one walk...
J: That is why we must see some individual style. Each model adds her own attitude to an outfit and so does her walk.
